Genoa Lock Down Mexico Star – Inter Milan Turn Attention To Arsenal Wantaway
Genoa are determined to keep hold of Johan Vazquez, so Inter Milan could turn to Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
One of Inter’s major tasks in the transfer market will be to sign a player who can reinforce the left side of their defense.
This is a domino effect of an injury to Tajon Buchanan.
Last season, versatile Brazilian Carlos Augusto had frequently played on the left side of the back three. This was a key part of Inter’s defensive depth holding out.
But with Buchanan on the sidelines for the first few months of next season, Augusto will be required at wingback.
Therefore, Inter are targeting a player who can back up Alessandro Bastoni in defense.
Hellas Verona’s Juan Cabal had appeared to be that player. But Juventus swooped in at the eleventh hour and signed the Colombian.
Therefore, Inter are back at square one in their search for a left-sided defender.
Genoa Lock Down Vazquez – Inter Could Turn To Arsenal Defender Kiwior
Inter have a couple of options as far as who they’ll move on to.
One would be to try and sign an experienced player available on a free transfer.
Mario Hermoso or Ricardo Rodriguezare prospective targets in that respect.
But by all accounts, Nerazzurri owners Oaktree Capital prefer a move for a younger player. They want to invest in a defender with margins for growth.
Cabal had looked like a logical profile in that respect. But he is not off the table.
Genoa defender Vazquez is another option.
The Mexican international is 25 years of age. He has a few seasons of Serie A experience under his belt – but at the same time, his best years would certainly be ahead of him at least on paper.
But Genoa do not want to have a fire sale this summer.
They want to keep key players from last season around so that they can build for next season.
Genoa have already sold goalkeeper Josep Martinez to Inter. And they do not want to sell another regular starter from last season.
Therefore, Inter could move on to former Spezia defender Kiwior.
The 24-year-old wants to leave Arsenal this summer, as he feels that particularly with the expected arrival of defender Ricardo Calafiori, he will not receive much playing time.
And Inter are ready to try and leverage Kiwior’s desire to leave to bring the 24-year-old Polish international back to Serie A.
