GdS: Scudetto defence dismantled – Calabria and Tomori heading towards Milan exit
FIkayo Tomori and Davide Calabria were two stars of the Scudetto-winning season in 2021-22, but their time at AC Milan looks set to end.
As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, Calabria is going through a tough time at the moment. The captain was the protagonist of a controversial exit from the field against Red Star and his contract expires in June.
For months it has been clear: his contract will not be renewed. In the coming months the Italian will leave Milan, with the relationship having soured towards the end a bit. In the meantime, yesterday he vented on social media.
“A lot of incorrect information has been circulating about me and the team. These insinuations about on-field dynamics, various confrontations and my private life, do not correspond to the truth, they only create confusion and division,” he stated.
It is easy to imagine that he is referring to his involvement in recent articles on Fonseca’s outburst and to a piece of news – never confirmed in the slightest – published by DillingerNews.it about a car accident involving a drunk Calabria.
Then there is Tomori, who is not among the first in the hierarchy but has also worn the armband. The Englishman was a key man during the title-winning campaign but he is now behind Matteo Gabbia and Malick Thiaw in the pecking order.
The idea is that Fonseca will continue with that pairing and Tomori could have got a chance in the Champions League, if he had not been suspended for a yellow card received while warming up. Now, the former Chelsea man is no longer unsellable.
