GdS: What is planned for Milan’s 125-year celebration and why Cardinale will not attend
There are plenty of festivities planned for AC Milan’s 125th anniversary celebrations in the game against Genoa tonight, but Gerry Cardinale will not be there to see them.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) there will be lights, music, entertainment and above all trophies. Club legends will be brought onto the field in a special night to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Milan, born on 16 December 1899.
The evening will start at 19:45 CET, exactly one hour before the match. Marco Van Basten, Filippo Inzaghi and Andriy Shevchenko will be honoured, as the new inductees into the Milan Hall of Fame, joining Franco Baresi.
Shevchenko will not be able to be there due to previous personal commitments but he is expected at the stadium for one of the first matches of the new year. Van Basten will instead light up San Siro again: he will enter accompanied by Gullit and Rijkaard.
Once the Rossoneri squad have returned to the dressing rooms after warming up, there will be seven minutes of lights and performers, music (by Meduza) and pyrotechnics. Other legends will come on too, such as Pato, Seedorf, Costacurta, Ambrosini, Tassotti, Galli, Evani, Donadoni and many others.
Cardinale won’t be there, and there is a reason for it: he intends to leave the stage to those who wrote the history of the club, while waiting and hoping to write new pages in the future. There will be a three-tier display that the fans will participate in, and the team will wear the special edition shirt.
