GdS: ‘The numbers don’t add up’ – Confusion at Milan over current situation

AC Milan currently sit eighth in the Serie A table, albeit with a game in hand, but even with an extra three points they would not be where they need to be. 

Things this season have been a rollercoaster. Milan have seen many drops with few climbs worth holding onto, considering the current climate of everything else. Yes, the Rossoneri have been bad this season, but there is no one reason why.

Instead, the club are having to sort through a variety of problems, all with differing levels of impact and this is causing confusion about why there is such a struggle so far this season.

This morning, Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) have tried to dig into the reasoning behind the confusion about the Diavolo’s situation. The big issue, according to the report is the numbers and how they ‘don’t add up’.

Milan are left chasing teams who spend less than them across the board, in the summer mercato and on their players.

Fonseca’s wage, more importantly, the fact that it is less than some coaches above him in the league, is a starting point. The Rossoneri did not bet on a coach with a high salary, this could be the reason for their troubles.

Divock Origi and Fode Ballo-Toure’s wages still create issues, as funds cannot be reallocated whilst they are still under contract. Perhaps, this is the reason why in the summer more could not be done about filling gaps.

Gazzetta concludes that the issue stems from money, as with all things Milan currently does.
