With Theo Hernandez suspended and Davide Calabria struggling with injury, AC Milan lack a captain. For this reason, Paulo Fonseca has a decision to make regarding the armband, and there are four players in contention.

The game in Florence showed a lack of authority on and off the pitch, Hernandez had a horrific performance whilst donning the armband, and after his red card, he will miss the next two matches. However, there are also questions about Fonseca’s control of the squad after the penalty incident.

Due to Theo’s suspension, another player will now be entrusted with the honours of being Milan’s captain, and given Calabria is suffering from a new injury, there are no direct replacements.

For this reason, Fonseca must now make a decision about the destination of the armband, and Gazzetta dello Sport (via Milan News) claims there are four potential options.

It seems Leao leads as a possible candidate, and the Portuguese has already worn the armband this season, so the 51-year-old can refer to his previous experience with the responsibility. Mike Maignan also is a possibility, but with his inability to move around the pitch, this idea is not preferred, Alvaro Morata is also being considered.

The other leading possibility is offering the honour to Matteo Gabbia. After an international call-up and some fantastic performances, he is at the top of his game, and he could be given the armband for the first time.
