GdS: ‘Air of divorce’ – Milan seek right-back reset with experienced duo tipped to leave
AC Milan are leaning towards allowing both Davide Calabria and Alessandro Florenzi to leave on free transfers at the end of the season, a report claims.
We may only be in mid-November, but the time is approaching when the management must begin to make calls on which players should be here for next season and perhaps more importantly who should not.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport report today, there is ‘an air of divorce’ regarding Calabria and Florenzi, both of whom are only under contract until the end of the current season, therefore 30 June 2025.
It would certainly be a statement if the Rossoneri were to decide to let both walk given their contributions in recent years. The former is the club captain and an academy graduate, while the latter has shown his versatility by filling in multiple positions.
The issue however is two-fold: firstly there is a lack of physical reliability shown from both players. Florenzi has had three surgeries in three years since arriving on an initial loan, while Calabria continues to miss stretches of games consistently too.
Allowing both to depart would certainly complicate things from a squad list perspective though, given one came through the youth sector and the other qualifies as a homegrown player.
A player like Gabriele Zappa could arrive to help, with summer signing Emerson Royal seemingly having the starting spot locked down.
