Great Britain finished runners-up in the latest round of the World Cup four-man bobsleigh series after a storming second run in Innsbruck.

Pilot Brad Hall and British team-mates Taylor Lawrence, Leon Greenwood and Arran Gulliver moved up from third place after the opening run on the Austrian track to claim silver by one hundredth of a second.

It was a third podium finish for the GB four-man in as many events - following up a bronze in St Moritz and gold in Winterberg - and came after the withdrawal of usual team member Greg Cackett because of injury.

"We had to make changes to the crew with Greg being injured, so to pull out two really good starts and two really solid drives when this team have never raced together is a big plus," said Hall.

The British sled split the two leading German teams, finishing 0.28 seconds behind defending champion Francesco Friedrich and just ahead of Johannes Lochner in third.

Friedrich's winning time of one minute 40.45 seconds served to strengthen his lead in the overall standings at the midway point of the season.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist in the four-man event moved to 885 points after four rounds, extending his lead over second-placed Hall to 66 points, while Lochner is third.

The competition returns for two more rounds in St Moritz, Switzerland, next weekend, 25-26 January.
