Gameday 51 Preview: Flyers vs. Devils
For the third time in two weeks, the Philadelphia Flyers will square off against the New Jersey Devils, this time at the Prudential Center.
The Flyers have emerged victorious in both previous matchups, leveraging defensive discipline and energy to keep the high-powered Devils offense at bay.

Finding the Formula to Contain the Devils
In their two previous wins over New Jersey, the Flyers demonstrated that they know how to neutralize the Devils' fast-paced attack.
One key factor has been their ability to control the middle of the ice, preventing the Devils from generating dangerous chances off the rush. Without captain Nico Hischier, who remains out with an injury, the Devils are missing a crucial playmaker and defensive presence, further tilting the matchup in the Flyers' favor.

The Flyers' defense, even with Egor Zamula's absence, has remained solid thanks to John Tortorella's strategic adjustments to the pairings. Travis Sanheim has continued to shine alongside Jamie Drysdale, while Cam York has looked comfortable next to Rasmus Ristolainen. The veteran pairing of Nick Seeler and Erik Johnson has provided steady minutes as well.
If the Flyers can continue clogging up lanes and forcing the Devils to play on the perimeter, they have a strong chance of completing the season series sweep.
Discipline is Crucial
The Devils' power play ranks second in the league, a testament to their skill and precision with the man advantage. Even without Hischier, New Jersey remains a threat any time they go on the power play.
In their last matchup, the Flyers kept penalties to a minimum despite the game getting chippy at times. Maintaining that level of discipline will be essential once again. Tortorella's squad has shown that they can stay composed even when the physicality ramps up—a crucial trait when facing a team that will undoubtedly try to bait them into costly mistakes.
Impressive job by Flyers on 4-minute penalty kill, limiting Devils' No. 2 ranked power play to 2 shots on goal, and getting 2 shots short-handed.

Special teams could very well be the deciding factor in this game. If the Flyers can stay out of the box, they'll significantly increase their chances of walking away with another two points.
Keeping the Offensive Depth Rolling
The Flyers’ offense has been clicking lately, with contributions coming from up and down the lineup. Joel Farabee and Bobby Brink have been particularly effective, while veterans like Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton continue to provide leadership and timely scoring.
Anthony Richard's speed on the fourth line has injected energy, and the chemistry between lines has been palpable. The Flyers are generating high-quality chances and, just as importantly, following up on rebounds and winning puck battles in front of the net.
Against a Devils team that can strike quickly, the Flyers will need to maintain this offensive momentum. Establishing early pressure and sustaining it throughout the game will help keep New Jersey on their heels.
