Gamecocks adding productive cornerback from MAC school via transfer portal
South Carolina football has landed an eighth player from the portal.
This time, it’s a cornerback.
Former Ball State cornerback Myles Norwood has committed to the Gamecocks, On3 Sports reported Thursday. He picked Shane Beamer and USC over another SEC school, Kentucky, after taking visits to both schools.
Norwood was productive in 2024 with 38 total tackles (22 solo), 10 pass breakups and a fumble recovery in 12 games as a junior for the Cardinals.
Ball State competes in the MAC and was 3-9 this year (2-5 in conference). The team also underwent a head coaching change this offseason.
Norwood (6-foot-1, 183 pounds) is expected to have two years of eligibility remaining. He started his career in JUCO before playing two years at Iowa State. Norwood had originally committed to play at New Mexico State in 2024 before flipping to Ball State.
Among South Carolina’s cornerbacks, veteran O’Donnell Fortune was the only one to take part in 2024 senior day ceremonies. The Gamecocks started Fortune and Judge Collier at CB in their most recent game at Clemson.
Norwood is the team’s first portal defensive back acquisition of any kind for 2025.
South Carolina (9-3) finished No. 15 in the final College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings and plays Illinois in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando on Dec. 31 (3 p.m., ABC).
