Tonight's game would have seen Kings Forward Trevor Lewis receive a silver stick having played one thousand NHL career games.
Here is that game preview:
The Los Angeles Kings host the Calgary Flames in the second of three meetings, this season.
On November 11th, 2024, the Flames defeated the Kings, in Calgary, 3-1.
LA are going for their tenth consecutive home victory. This season, the Kings boast a 14-2-1 record at Crypto.com Arena, 11-1-0 in their last twelve games.
The Flames are 5-8-4 on the road, this season, 2-6-2 in their last ten games away from the Saddledome.
Usually, when doing these previews, I’ll use a pun, play on words, or a turn of phrase, before providing some information for the game. Today, I’m going to deviate from the jokey titles and show some reverence for Trevor Lewis who will be receiving a silver stick – awarded to players who have competed in one thousand NHL games.

SILVER STICK
Drafted 17th overall by the Kings in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Lewis has played seven hundred eighty-two games with LA, the eighth most in franchise history. Before all is said and done, he could surpass General Manager Rob Blake (805) – one of the gentlemen who will present Lewis with his silver stick.
Lewis played two hundred eighteen games outside of LA, sixty-four with the Winnipeg Jets, one hundred seventy-four with the Calgary Flames.
Hillering (verb): Avoiding playing certain players against their old teams or other interpersonal matchups.
We can now add an asterisk to this definition; that being that Head Coach Jim Hiller reserves interpersonal matchups for the rarest of occasions. On the night Lewis is set to receive a personal award for playing one thousand NHL games, you couldn't write a better script than having the Kings take on the Flames.
Hiller has a great deal of respect for not just Trevor Lewis the player but Trevor Lewis the man. He recently described Lewis as, "a rock in a stormy sea of emotions," capping off his praise by stating he's, "a Lewie fan."
"Lewie, we call him the Wild Thing. Remember the old movie Major League? Once we get a lead, he comes out of the bullpen." - LA Kings Head Coach Jim Hiller
Personally, Trevor Lewis gives off Jake Taylor vibes more so than Ricky Vaughn – a player in the twilight of his career who sacrifices himself for the betterment of the team.
Like Taylor with Vaughn and Willie Mays Hayes, Lewis has taken the younger guys under his wing.
ALEX TURCOTTE ON LEWIS
BRANDT CLARKE ON LEWIS
In Major League II, Taylor hangs up the cleats and joins Cleveland's coaching staff. When Lewis decides to hang up his skates, there will jobs waiting for him in Player Development, Pro Scouting, etc., because he's a pro's pro.
The Kings are set for a five-game road trip where they'll face the Jets and the Flames on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Lewis could receive his silver stick ahead of either matchup – having played for both teams – but the Kings will likely wait until they return to Crypto.com Arena (January 20th, 2025 at the earliest).
On behalf of The Hockey News Los Angeles Kings, we pray for your safety and prosperity during this time.
