Game balls: 3 standouts from the Bears' Week 3 loss vs. Colts

The Chicago Bears (1-2) were defeated by the Indianapolis Colts (1-2), 21-16, in Week 3, which marked their second consecutive loss of the 2024 season.

It was another rough showing from the offense, which did see some encouraging performances from rookies Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze. But the run game remained nonexistent against the league's worst run defense, the offensive line struggled and Williams committed three turnovers that proved to be the difference. The defense allowed a season-high 21 points, but that should've been enough as the Bears offense wasted countless opportunities to score.

Despite the loss, there were some standout performances on offense and defense despite the team's inability to win a winnable game. Here is who earned game balls from the Week 3 loss over the Colts:

1. WR Rome Odunze

Rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze put on a show with the best performance by a Bears wideout this season, providing a glimpse of what's looking to be a bright future. Odunze hauled in six catches for a team-high 112 yards, including an impressive 47-yard reception from fellow rookie Caleb Williams, and his first NFL touchdown. Odunze, who is playing through a knee sprain, has flashed an easy chemistry with Williams, and it's a connection that's expected to continue to flourish this season and beyond.

2. TE Cole Kmet

Good things happen when the Bears get tight end Cole Kmet involved in the passing game. Kmet, who was the team's second-leading receiver last season, had his best game of the season with 10 catches for 97 yards and a late touchdown. Kmet provides a safe, reliable target for a young passer like Williams, and we saw what happens when he's a prime option in the passing game. Kmet's late touchdown cut Chicago's deficit to one score and nearly gave them a chance to win, but the offense didn't get the ball back in the end.

3. LB Tremaine Edmunds

The Bears defense was good enough to win this game, and there were a couple of standout performances. That includes linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who totaled five tackles, two pass breakups and one interception. His pick off quarterback Anthony Richardson came on third-and-goal from the 1-yard line, where the second-year QB tossed an ill advised pass, after being pressured by linebacker Jack Sanborn, to an area of the end zone with several defenders and Edmunds was in the right place in the right time to come away with the pick. It marked Edmunds' 10th career interception.
