Gabbia’s agent confirms desire to renew with Milan: “Super happy to extend”
The agent of Matteo Gabbia has confirmed that talks are ongoing with AC Milan over the extension of his contract, a renewal that his client is ‘super happy’ to sign.
Sky reported earlier today that Gabbia is a serious candidate to become Milan’s captain for at least the game against Udinese on Saturday, with Theo Hernandez suspended and Davide Calabria injured. It is a sign of just how far he has come in 2024, since returning early from a loan at Villarreal.
After being called up to the Italian national team during the current break, they also added that the entourage of the Milan academy product should meet with club directors this week to extend his contract from 2026 to 2030, which will come with a substantial pay rise.
Now, Gabbia’s agent Tullio Tinti has spoken about the rumours that the centre-back is close to extending his deal, suggesting that there is still work to be done but both sides are happy to push ahead. MilanNews relayed his comments.
Gabbia has grown a lot in recent months…
“Gabbia has made the leap in the last two seasons, he is aware of his means. He is a fantastic boy and an important player, he has shown it on the pitch.
“He earned everything on his own, after the six months on loan at Villarreal he did very well at Milan. He started out behind [in the pecking order], but he earned his place with great performances.”
Where is his renewal at?
“They called me, we will talk about it soon. He is very happy, he has worn the Milan shirt since he was a child and therefore he is super happy to extend and to be an important player for the Diavolo. Then obviously we need to discuss.”
He received a national team call-up, could the Milan captaincy follow?
“He’s ready for these things, he’s a mature boy, he’s an example for everyone. He’s the first to arrive on the pitch and the last to leave. He’s a top boy, he’s ready for anything.”
