AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia believes that he and his team-mates are on the right path towards writing more glorious pages in the club’s history.

The centre-back has been one of the most reliable performers for the Rossoneri since his return from loan at Villarreal at the start of the year. He has sat out for a few games due to a calf issue, but should be back to face Juventus after the break.

Gabbia spoke at the exhibition at the Via Dante store for the ‘125 Years of Milan’ photobook which commemorates the history of the club, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

What was it like winning the 2021-22 Scudetto?

“It was definitely a fantastic moment, a moment that will then bind all the members who were part of that squad. It was a beautiful moment but also the day before, the journey that took us to Reggio Emilia by train, the arrival in the city where there were already so many fans waiting for us.

“On the day of the match they arrived at the stadium and it was really a Rossoneri crowd. So it was an unforgettable memory that will bind us all and that we will carry inside us for a long time.”

What does it mean to represent Milan?

“It is a special emotion to be able to represent Milan in Europe, also because they have left us a very significant legacy with so many victories, which have made history in this sport and for this club.

“Consequently, we try every time to be at the right level, to give 100% of ourselves, and many times we also manage to take great satisfaction, such as last week [vs. Real Madrid], where it was a good match.

“But it is obvious that to reach the levels and standards that Milan rightly deserves, a lot of effort is needed and perhaps even a little time. However, we are on the road, we have the 100% will to be able to try to rewrite history as they did, who have become legends, in short.”
