Future Hall Of Fame Goalie Will Make Final Start In San Jose

Marc-Andre Fleury will start in goal for the Minnesota Wild when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

Tonight will be the final time the Wild visit San Jose this season, meaning there won't be another chance for Sharks fans to see the future HOFer in action.

The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Fleury first overall in the legendary 2003 NHL draft. The lighthearted, elite goalie is expected to retire after the season and leave a lasting legacy.

Sharks defenseman Jake Walman said he watched Fleury's tricks and pranks on YouTube.

"I've loved hearing all the stories of his pranks over the years," Walman said. "I haven't had the opportunity to meet him. He's had a phenomenal career, [and] I'm excited to play against him. I think we'll get his best tonight."

Walman shared his favorite memory of Fleury, scoring his first NHL goal against him.

"He was way out of position. I think somebody might have interfered with him. I'm not sure how the goal really counted, but yeah, I was just celebrating, so I didn't really see," Walman smiled. "It was during COVID, too. It was the fake board fans in the arenas, so it seemed packed in there, but it wasn't."

Fleury played for the Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks, and Minnesota Wild. Fleury has won three Stanley Cups and a Vezina during the 20-21 season.
