Roma fans booed their own players after a 1-0 loss against Elfsborg on Thursday night: ‘We only support the jersey.’

Ivan Juric suffered the first defeat as a Roma coach last night, losing 1-0 away at Elfsborg in the Europa League.

Over 600 Roma fans travelled from the capital to watch the game, but they were unimpressed by the performance and result.

Gazzetta and Corriere dello Sport report that rage erupted at the final whistle when the Giallorossi fans started booing their players.

Fans shouted that they were “fed up” with footballers, using a rude Italian expression (“Ci avete rotto il c…”) and that they’d keep supporting “only the jersey” and not the players.

All the Giallorossi went under the away sector last night, but they quickly returned inside the dressing room as the atmosphere was toxic.

According to Corriere dello Sport, only the captain, Lorenzo Pellegrini, remained for longer in front of the travelling fans despite loud boos.

Roma’s next Serie A match is against Monza at the U-Power Stadium.
