Friday rewind: May River, Hilton Head Island win big Beaufort Academy wins close one
A roundup of Friday’s high school football action in the Hilton Head area:
Hilton Head Island 45, Aiken 0
Running back Troy Timko rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Jeremiah Walters threw one in the Seahawks’ win.
Timko carried it 12 times for 92 yards. Walters was 12-of-13 passing for 243 yards. Carson Haines’ was Walters’ top target and caught six passes for 159 yards and a TD.
Thaddeus Czarnecki returned a punt for a touchdown and Jason Braymiller returned a Caleb Spangler blocked punt for a score.
May River 41, Lake City 6
Quarterback Tanner Macy and Andrew Johnson each rushed for two touchdowns in the Sharks’ win over the Panthers.
Johnson finished with 112 yards and also ran in a two-point conversion. Sean Mitchell led May River’s ground attack with 150 yards and a TD. Gage Duncan also had a rushing touchdown.
Philip Simmons 31, Beaufort 20
Philip Simmons jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter on its way to a win over the Eagles.
Beaufort played without quarterback Samari Bonds in the second half. Bonds left the game with a foot injury.
Anthony Kahler replaced Bonds and threw a TD pass to Qualeek Isner. Bonds also had a TD pass to Caleb Stephan.
Xavier Tobias also had a TD run for Beaufort.
Thomas Heyward 39, Orangeburg Prep 0
Nicholas Robinson rushed for three scores and Tony O’Banner also had three TDs in the Rebels’ win over Orangeburg Prep.
O’Banner threw a TD in the first quarter and also ran for two touchdowns.
Savannah Country Day (Ga.) 44, Bluffton 16
The Bobcats suffered their first loss of the season on the road against Savannah Country Day.
Whale Branch 35, Ridgeland 12
The Warriors won their second straight game in impressive fashion.
Whale Branch will host Woodland next week.
Beaufort Academy 25, Patrick Henry 23
The Eagles won their third straight game as they held off a late comeback attempt from PHA.
Beaufort Academy hosts Lee Academy next week.
Bethesda Academy 12, John Paul II 3
John Paul II led 3-0 at halftime before Bethesda scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half.
Manny Hurtado hit a 43-yard field goal for the Warriors’ lone score.
Jordan Cheever and Assir Best had TD runs for Bethesda.
