Unpredictable opponents after change of coach

We are in action earlier than usual this weekend in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, as we go away to face LASK on Friday 12 April at 19:30 CEST.

The game is a focus of attention not only for it being played on a Friday night, but also because of the current goings-on at LASK. This Wednesday morning, the departure of coach Thomas Sageder was announced after LASK have failed to win a match so far in 2024. Assistant coach Maximilian Ritscher is to take over for the rest of the season.

While the coach may be unfamiliar, the setting is one our boys are well acquainted with already. Or third trip to the Raiffeisen Arena within the space of two months provides a chance to continue our run of success against LASK. We took a convincing 3-2 away win at LASK in the cup in our first match of the new year, and also sealed three points there in our final match of the regular season.

We know how to put in an away performance when called upon, with a run of 27 away matches unbeaten – a Bundesliga record! Our rock-solid defence has formed the basis of our success. In seven of our 12 Bundesliga away matches this season, Alex Schlager has kept a clean sheet, with our goalkeeper at the top of the shots' saved figures with 81% of efforts stopped.

Whether we can bring our usual verve onto the pitch will be key. The injuries to Fernando and Maurits Kjaergaard have not made our task any easier, but our will to win will not be sated unless we get three big points in the title battle.

You can follow the clash with LASK on Sky X in Austria, as always, with live updates provided on our website. If you are planning to go there to support us away, we have put together all the key info for you here.

Injury news

  • Fernando suffered a thigh injury in the match against Rapid Vienna and is out for the rest of the season.

  • Amar Dedic (ankle) is a doubt against LASK.

Views

We have trained well this week and have spoken a lot in order to work on the topics arising from the past two matches. Our focus is entirely on ourselves. The injuries to Fernando and Kjaergaard are anything but positive, of course, but we have other players who we fully trust and with which we want to claim three points.

The change of coaches at LASK doesn't affect things at all for us, as we are still facing eleven players who know that they have do and want to beat us. We are focused fully on our own topics. We will prepare as well as we can for the clash, and we want to take a win under these slightly changed circumstances.

We are at the top of the table, and we want to make sure of our lead with a win in Linz. We need to be concentrated and determined over the full 90 minutes for that. Our most recent clashes with LASK have been close and tough. That will definitely be the case again on Friday.
