Fresh Bruno Guimaraes transfer stance revealed amid Manchester City ‘confidence’ due to unique factor

Manchester City and Arsenal both remain ‘confident’ about signing Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes for less than £100 million this summer.

The 26-year-old is expected to return to Tyneside in the coming weeks to begin preparations for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign, after the midfielder saw his £100 million release clause lapse while representing Brazil at the Copa America in the United States.

Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a potential exit from St James’ Park this summer, with the midfielder subject to transfer interest from Manchester City, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain following another impressive campaign under Eddie Howe.

The midfielder moved to Newcastle for £40 million from Lyon in January 2022 and featured in 37 Premier League matches for the Magpies last season, where the Brazilian was directly involved in 15 goals.

Guimaraes additionally featured in all six UEFA Champions League matches for Newcastle, as well as playing in both the Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup, with Newcastle beating Manchester City in the latter competition.

Pep Guardiola’s side face Newcastle at St James’ Park in the Premier League in September, with the remaining potential for Guimaraes to play either side in the clash, following reported fresh developments in the transfer saga.

TEAMtalk claim that Manchester City maintain ‘confidence’ that they can sign the 26-year-old for around £80 million this summer, with Arsenal also believing that a deal can be struck for less than the Brazilian’s £100 million release clause.

Guimaraes is reportedly ‘highly unlikely’ to try and force an exit from Newcastle ahead of the start of the new season however, with the midfielder ‘very happy’ at St James’ Park despite wanting to play Champions League football.

Both Manchester City and Arsenal qualified for the Champions League for the upcoming season, meanwhile Newcastle failed to secure a place in any of the three European competitions, after Manchester United won the FA Cup.

Guimaraes’ international teammate Savio is expected to imminently complete a move to the Etihad Stadium, with the 2004-born forward becoming Manchester City’s first addition of the summer window.
