It has been a turbulent few days for Kylian Mbappe, whose recent trip to Sweden during the international break has ignited a storm of controversy.

Earlier reports from Swedish media revealed that Stockholm police have opened an investigation into an alleged rape incident that was reported at the hotel where Mbappe stayed last week.

However, the Real Madrid star quickly branded these allegations as ‘fake news,’ suggesting that the timing of the accusations was far from coincidental.

In a social media post, Mbappe hinted that PSG and the French media may have conspired to tarnish his reputation ahead of an important legal hearing.

The hearing, which centres around €55 million that Mbappe claims PSG owes him, is set to take place before the Appeals Tribunal of the Professional Football League.

With tensions already high between the player and his former club, these allegations have only deepened the rift.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, French national team coach Didier Deschamps expressed his frustration over the controversy surrounding Mbappe’s trip to Sweden.

Following France’s 2-1 victory over Belgium, Deschamps addressed the issue in a press conference, lamenting how the controversy has affected the atmosphere around Les Bleus.

“This is not good for the French national team. It is [rumours] coming out everywhere,” he stated.

Deschamps called for caution and urged journalists to distinguish between truth and falsehood before reporting.

He added, “There is a negative atmosphere. It is better to take a little time and think before publishing anything.”

Despite the situation, Deschamps noted that he would not confront Mbappe directly about the issue, as the player is, “Old enough to know how to communicate.”

What Mbappe is saying

Mbappe, for his part, did not shy away from responding to the accusations, insinuating that PSG and the French media were orchestrating a smear campaign against him ahead of the €55 million hearing.

In a social media post, the Real Madrid forward wrote, “It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance.”

PSG did not back away either, with the French club issuing a response while expressing disappointment over the player’s accusations.
