Bordeaux have announced that the club have accepted their demotion out of French professional football.

They have plied their trade in Ligue 2 for the last two seasons but have found themselves hindered by a â‚¬42m financial shortfall.

As a result, despite finishing in 12th place in the second division last season, the DNCG (French football's financial authorities), have demoted them to the third tier which is largely non-professional.

That punishment of being dropped into the Championnat National was meted out to Les Girondins on July 9 and although the club appealed initially, they have now withdrawn their objection and accepted demotion.

The 2009 French champions' plight is also reportedly likely to worsen further in the coming days too.

It has not been ruled out that they will enter administration and suffer further demotion to the fourth tier which would result in significant job losses and likely result in the closure of a famous youth academy which has produced the likes of senior internationals Aurélien Tchouaméni and Jules Koundé in recent years.

In addition, liquidation and being refounded as a new club has also been mooted.
