French FA disavow François Letexier’s decision not to send off Monaco’s Wilfried Singo following stamp on PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma
The French FA’s refereeing committee has acknowledged that international French referee François Letexier should have sent off AS Monaco centre-back Wilfried Singo (24) for his brutal stamp on PSG Gianluigi Donnarumma (25). The Italian international goalkeeper could not continue Les Parisiens‘ away Ligue 1 clash against Monaco, held on December 18, after suffering a facial injury when the Ivory Coast international unintentionally stomped on his face.
PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma’s face is in quite the state after his collision with Monaco’s Wilfried Singo.
The contact came from Singo’s follow through from a shot on goal. He was already on a yellow and the referee, and VAR, chose to take no action.

The French FA have made public the exchange between VAR and Letexier in the aftermath of the collision between Singo and Donnarumma. The VAR tells Letexier he won’t send him to review the incident on the on-pitch monitor considering Singo tried to avoid Donnarumma in trying to jump over him, but ultimately failed. “The consequences are huge, but there’s nothing we can do.”
According to the French FA, Singo endangered the physical integrity of Donnarumma when his boot smashed his face. In such a situation, VAR was expected to overturn Letexier’s decision not to sanction the Monaco centre-back. Letexier should therefore have given Singo his marching orders.
