Freezing temperatures force Championship postponements

Saturday's Scottish Championship matches between Greenock Morton and Raith Rovers and Livingston and Airdrieonians have been rearranged due to weather concerns.

The SPFL have taken the decision to move both matches three days in advance as a result of the expected freezing temperatures.

Morton's visit from Raith will now take place 24 hours later on Sunday, 12 January (15:00 GMT), when temperatures are expected to rise.

And Livingston's clash with Airdrie has been moved to Tuesday (19:45).

Morton said the match would "have almost no chance of going ahead on Saturday".

"Temperatures are forecasted to rise on Saturday afternoon through to Sunday and rescheduling the fixture by 24 hours gives it a much better chance of going ahead," they added in a statement.

"It is preferable to aim for the game to be played this weekend, rather than having to reschedule the game for a midweek date.

"We have also aimed to make this decision as early as possible to give supporters as much notice as we could."

Livingston say they also looked to move their game to Sunday, but that "a number of external matchday partners were unable to accommodate for then".

"An early agreement allows the club to save on some costs which would have been incurred by waiting for the formality of postponing on Saturday, and means our opponents also have plenty of advance notice," they added.
