Frank de Boer insists Crystal Palace job is not a 'stepping stone' to a bigger club

Frank de Boer says he does not see Crystal Palace as a stepping stone to a bigger job.

De Boer was appointed Palace manager on a three-year contract after reaching an agreement with the club over the weekend.

Asked if he views the Palace job as a stepping stone, the 47-year-old said: "No, I do not want to think about that. I am focusing on this job right now and what happens in the future is not important.

"The only thing I am concerned about is to make Crystal Palace a very solid Premier League club.

"That is my only concern and what time will bring I want to stay. For me I want to stay. I signed for three years and normally I want to stay for three years. That means it is going well."

De Boer says he has learned from his short spell at Inter Milan where he was sacked in November after only 85 days in charge.

He said: "I have a lot of energy to start again. It was a good learning experience, and with the experience I have at Ajax I think I am ready to manage a Premier League club. I learned a lot from it that I can bring here, that experience, to Crystal Palace."

De Boer says he wants to assess the Palace squad before making transfer plans for the summer.

"First of all I need to see the players," he said. "Of course I have my ideas and maybe one or two signings that I think may be necessary, but first I want to see all the players who are here right now."

Palace chairman Steve Parish has revealed he consulted with former manager Sam Allardyce during the process of appointing his successor and spoke to him about De Boer.

Parish said: "He enabled me to consult him on the appointment. We have had a couple of conversations over what we should do and who we should pick. It was a surprise [when he left] but one door closes and another opens and this is another opportunity."
