France and Spain’s EURO 2024 semi-final clash already has enough narratives around it, and a little bit of history for the two countries was created even prior to kick-off.

The fixture is now just the third in international football history to be played at each stage of either the World Cup or the European Championship.

Having previously met in the group stages (1996), quarter-finals (2000 and 2012) and final (1984) of the EUROs, as well as the last 16 of the 2006 World Cup, the two European powerhouses have now completed the set.

Spain are already in the very exclusive club, having faced off against Italy at each round, including in the group stages of this summer’s competition. Unsurprisingly, given the history and lore around the rivalry, England vs Germany is the third final fixture to be near-football heritage.

France hold the edge in major international tournament meetings, winning three of the first four meetings in 1984, 2000 and 2006 respectively, while drawing in 1996.

However, Spain emerged victorious last time around, defeating Les Bleus 2-0 in 2012 en route to EUROs glory. It remains their last international trophy.

Who will win tonight in the sixth installment of what is fast becoming one of international football’s best showdowns?
