France Ousts Portugal To Record Audience On Fox As European Championship & Copa America Quarterfinals Score Big

Through the quarterfinals, the UEFA European Championship is up 42% versus the 2021 tournament on the network, averaging about 1.5M viewers across 43 matches on Fox and FS1.

The quarterfinals alone averaged about 3.6M viewers — an 89% uptick compared to the last tournament to become the most-watched UEFA European Championship quarterfinals on English language networks in the U.S.

The four quarterfinal matches now make up the four most-watched English-language quarterfinal telecasts for the UEFA European Championship in the U.S on record, buoyed by France’s 5-3 win over Portugal on Saturday that drew 4.3M. That’s now the most-watched English-language Euro Championship quarterfinal telecast on record in the U.S and the largest audience for a non-World Cup soccer telecast in Fox history.

Also on Saturday, the Netherlands notched a win against Turkey in the second most-watched of the quarterfinal matches. That telecast managed 3.5M viewers, up 50% from the comparable match in 2021 and 83% versus that year’s quarterfinal audience average.

Rounding out the quarterfinals was England-Switzerland with 3.3M viewers and Spain-Germany with 3.2M, both of which saw more than 100% boosts compared to their equivalent matches in 2021.

That’s not all, either. Fox is also seeing success with its telecasts of the Copa America tournament, averaging about 1.2M viewers through the quarterfinals across Fox, FS1, and FS2.

While it’s lower than the Euro Championship, it’s actually up 400% from 2021, in which the networks had only averaged about 234,000 viewers by this time in the tournament.

The Copa America quarterfinals averaged 1.7M viewers, and the Uruguay-Brazil showdown was the big ticket game over the weekend with 2.1M tuning in. That’s now the most-watched Copa America quarterfinal telecast in English-language history.
