FPL 2024/25 tips: The best goalkeepers to sign

The start of the 2024/25 Fantasy Premier League season is just a few weeks away.

Clubs are now in pre-season and managers are getting to know their teams ahead of the new campaign. So it’s time for FPL managers to do the same.

There are a lot of big decisions to be made in FPL this year and, believe it or not, your goalkeepers can be key.

There has been a change in bonus points with this season, with points rewarded for saving a penalty being reduced from 15 to nine. Conceding a goal will also be worth -4BPS, but scoring a goal will bring 10 points total.

Your choice of goalkeeper can also be vital in planning the rest of the squad. If you put all your eggs in one basket, a cheaper alternative all free up some millions for elsewhere. Or, if you go for two equal-level goalkeeper, you might have a bit less to work with.

So, who are the options?

David Raya

When it comes to goalkeepers there isn’t much difference in prices in FPL. David Raya is one of a host of goalkeepers at a max starting price of £5.5m. And he was the second-best goalkeeper in FPL last season per points, only trailing Jordan Pickford. The Spaniard is now a permanent Arsenal goalkeeper and kept a clean sheet in half of his Premier League appearance.

Raya averaged 0.75 goals conceded per 90 minutes and 1.44 saves, while also preventing 2.03 goals. You’ll also have the bonus of him being available for all 38 games now, with no ineligibility due to loan.

Jordan Pickford

Speaking of Pickford, he once again represents a decent option. It’s easy to forget, but Everton boasted one of the best defences in the Premier League last season. The Toffees conceded 51 goals and kept 13 clean sheets, with Pickford between the sticks for all 38 matches. Only the top three conceded fewer goals than Everton, with their main problems coming at the other end of the pitch.

The Englishman made 121 saves in total in the Premier League last season, the seventh-most in the top flight. Per 90 minutes, that worked out to 3.18. Remember, goalkeepers get a point for every three saves they make in a match. So, Pickford averaged one point for a save every 90 minutes in the Premier League last season. He also prevented 2.47 goals.

Mark Flekken

If you want a cheaper goalkeeper so you can spend four funds elsewhere, Mark Flekken could be a good option. The Brentford man comes out on top in our analytics for goalkeepers based on bonus points potential — and last season he had 12 in total. Last season, Flekken also provided one assist for his teammates, not that you’d be adding him to your squad for that.

In more goalkeeper-focussed metrics, Flekken kept seven clean sheets for Brentford while averaging 3.15 saves per 90 minutes. He’s not a phenomenal goalkeeper but he’s definitely reliable when it comes to FPL.
