Four-star quarterback recruit decommits from South Carolina football

Just a day after South Carolina added a quarterback commit for its recruiting class of 2025, the Gamecocks lost a QB pledge in the class below it.

Four-star prospect Landon Duckworth — a 2026 prospect from Jackson, Alabama — has decommitted from South Carolina, he announced on social media Tuesday night.

Duckworth said in his post he had “nothing but love” for head coach Shane Beamer, offensive coordintaor/quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains and the USC staff for “believing in me.”

“Tough decision,” he wrote.

Duckworth had committed to the Gamecocks 10 months ago, becoming one of the first 2026 prospects in America to make a school choice when he was a high school sophomore. Now, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound QB is on the market again heading into his junior season.

Rated as the No. 11 QB in the country by the 247 Sports composite rankings, Duckworth completed over 60% of his passes for nearly 2,000 yards and 27 touchdowns as a sophomore last season.

His decommitment came one day after three-star 2025 quarterback recruit Cutter Woods, who plays in state at Westside High School, flipped his commitment from Wake Forest to USC.

Woods is South Carolina’s sole quarterback recruit in the Class of 2025, while Duckworth was the team’s only 2026 QB recruit while he was committed.

With Duckworth’s decommitment, South Carolina is down to two recruits in its 2026 (rising junior) class: four-star LB Rodney Colton Jr. and three-star OL Anthony Baxter.
