Real Madrid officially confirmed the renewal of Luka Modric’s contract until 2025 earlier today, even naming the Croatian star as the new first-team captain.

At 38 years of age, it is astounding how the midfield maestro continues to keep the fire burning to succeed at the highest level. Age, in fact, has never been a factor for Modric as he has only improved with every passing season.

As Real Madrid prepare to enter the 2024-25 campaign, the legend unsurprisingly faces a long list of records he can hope to break over the course of the year. Here are four such records to keep an eye on.

Oldest player to play at Real Madrid

The oldest player to have ever played in the Merengues’ colours is currently Ferenc Puskas who donned the iconic jersey in a match at the age of 39 years and 36 days.

With Modric set to turn 39 on September 9, he will break the record if he plays any game for the club after October 16. Needless to say, this is the easiest milestone for Modric to pass.

Real Madrid player with the most titles

Two players are currently tied for first place on the list of players with the most titles won with Real Madrid – Nacho Fernandez and Luka Modric.

Both players currently have 26 trophies to their name, and with the defender leaving the club this summer, the record is Modric’s to lose.

One title in the 2024-25 campaign will see the Croatian as the sole leader on the aforementioned list, while he could well hit 30 titles with the club if Los Blancos enjoy another special season.

Winning the septet

No club in history has ever won seven trophies in one season before, but Real Madrid have the chance to achieve the unprecedented feat this year.

Los Blancos are participating in seven competitions in 2024-25 including the novel Club World Cup in the United States next year. Modric, thus, could be part of the first septet-winning team and become the oldest player to achieve the feat.

Enter the top ten players with most appearances for Real Madrid

The 38-year-old, to date, has made 534 official appearances for Real Madrid and is 14th on the list of players with the most appearances for the club.

Ahead of him are Guti with 542 appearances, Marcelo with 546, Michel and Pirri with 561, and Jose Camacho with 577, all of whom Modric can overtake next season.

If the veteran makes 43 more appearances for Los Blancos, he will thus propel himself into ninth place on the list and cement his name in history once more.
