Fort Worth area high school basketball: Boswell, Argyle thriving in district play

The second half of the Texas high school girls’ basketball season is underway.

Here are a few things to know from the Fort Worth area as the postseason approaches.

Class 6A: Boswell is one of the top teams in Texas, more

Boswell girls basketball is ranked No. 2 in Class 6A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

The Pioneers are the highest-ranked team in North Texas and are led by Senior Camille Williams, a Miami signee and the 2024 Star-Telegram Player of the Year. She is the No. 36 prospect on ESPN’s class of 2025 girls basketball national rankings.

Boswell recently defeated Weatherford 68-39 to stay undefeated in District 3-6A.

The Pioneers also defeated North Crowley (19-7, 5-1), the TABC’s No. 21 ranked 6A squad. It was a hard-fought game, with Boswell winning 57-50. The Panthers and Pioneers will rematch on Feb. 4 in the regular season finale.

Boswell’s next game is at home is at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 against Mansfield Lake Ridge.

In District 4-6A, Byron Nelson (19-8, 10-0) is leading the way and is undefeated in district play. The Bobcats are fresh off a 45-36 victory over Southlake Carroll and a 67-31 win over Euless Trinity.

Byron Nelson’s district play dominance could be a sign the Bobcats can win some playoff games. They’ve had a terrific season-to-season turnaround. In 2024, Byron Nelson won three total games and went 2-10 in district play.

In District 8-6A, South Grand Prairie (21-6, 8-0) is undefeated in district play. In 2024, the Warriors lost to Duncanville in the state championship.

Class 5A: Argyle, Mansfield Summit look to continue stellar seasons

Argyle (25-4, 7-0) is the No. 6 ranked Class 5A team by the TABC. The Eagles are undefeated in District 6-5A play and recently picked up a 72-41 victory over Richland. Sophomore Wrigley Green led the way with 18 points.

To continue district play, Argyle will hit the road to face Grapevine at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 17. The Eagles have been dominant and are averaging 54.3 points per game.

Another team to watch is Mansfield Summit, the TABC’s No. 5 Class 5A squad. The Jaguars (19-4, 7-0) secured a 61-49 win over Mansfield Timberview, a team that went to the state final in 2024.

Summit’s next contest is an away game vs. Everman at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 17. The Bulldogs are 4-4 in district play and will need a few big wins to secure a playoff spot.

Class 4A: Glen Rose, Decatur, Brock are top teams

Glen Rose (18-6, 1-0) is just starting district play but has already proven that its a top 4A squad. The TABC ranks Glen Rose as its No. 3 Class 4A team. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Tigers defeated Brock 52-50 in double overtime after giving up a 14-0 run to start the game.

Brock is also off to a solid start and is the TABC’s No. 8 Class 4A team. Glen Rose’s next contest is an away game at Stephenville on Friday, Jan. 11, with a 5:45 scheduled tip. On the same day, Brock will look to bounce back in a home game vs. Brownwood.

Another team to keep an eye on is Decatur (24-3, 8-0), the TABC’s No. 4 ranked Class 4A team. The Eagles are coming off a 96-14 victory over Lake Worth.

To continue district play, Decatur will travel to Bridgeport at 6:15 p.m. Jan. 17.
