Former USC athletic director Pat Haden was hospitalized Tuesday for what a school spokesman described as lightheadedness.

USC Annenberg Media, a student-run online publication, noted that Haden was taken from campus on a stretcher, but he was sitting up. The school spokesman said Haden was alert and talking.

Haden has battled spells of lightheadedness in the past. Last October, Haden collapsed on the field in South Bend, Indiana prior to the Trojans’ game against Notre Dame. He also was hospitalized in February for lightheadedness.

Haden had been the school’s athletic director since 2010 before stepping down earlier this year. Lynn Swan replaced him. However, Haden has remained on campus to oversee the $270-million renovation to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
