Nylander, 26, signed an American Hockey League (AHL) deal with the Toronto Marlies during the off-season. His hope was that it would eventually lead to an NHL deal with the Maple Leafs during the season, and now he has gotten just that. With this, he now gets to play on the same team as his brother, William Nylander.
Nylander has had a strong start to the season with the Marlies, posting eight goals and 12 points in 14 games.
Nylander was selected by the Sabres with the eighth-overall pick of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. In 19 games over three seasons as a Sabre, Nylander had three goals, six points, and a minus-9 rating.
