Former Red Wings Goalie On The Shelf
When it rains, it pours.
The Detroit Red Wings find themselves in the worst pickle imaginable. They are 27 games into their regular season and currently sit one point ahead of the Montreal Canadiens for the second-last position in the Eastern Conference standings.
However, things have not been going well for the Chicago Blackhawks either.
They currently occupy the worst record in the NHL. To add insult to injury, they just lost their best goaltender.
Former Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek will be on the shelf for an undetermined amount of time. All that is known now is that the injury is to Mrazek's left groin.

The 32-year-old goalie has a history of groin injuries. In response to this latest one, the Blackhawks have recalled netminder Drew Commesso.
Before suffering the injury, Mrazek was enjoying a return-to-form season. In 20 games, he had a 7-11-1 record, a 2.83 goals-against average (GAA), and a .906 save percentage (SV%).
This is his third season with the Blackhawks. Mrazek began his career with the Red Wings, suiting up for games in six consecutive seasons before being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers.
After that, he spent time with the Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Maple Leafs before joining his current team. He experienced many successes and failures with the Hurricanes and Maple Leafs.
Commesso and Arvid Soderblom will have to hold down the fort for the cellar-dwellers while Mrazek is on the mend. There isn't much hope for a playoff berth, considering how the season has transpired for the Blackhawks.
However, they can remain competitive and make life difficult for their opponents every night.
They will have to do that in the short term without their number-one goalie. I hope Blackhawks fans have an umbrella handy.
