As Voetbal International have reported, Andrés Guardado has reversed his decision to retire from football.

The 38-year-old Mexican left Club León just two months ago, yet has returned to Los Panzas Verdes (The Green Bellies) with a run out at the FIFA Club World Cup firmly in his sights.

Guardado’s ‘last game’ for León came in November against CF Monterrey as the Rayados (Striped-Ones) prevailed 2-1 on the final day of the regular season. Before this, the former PSV man (of 102 appearances between 2015-17) had already retired from the Mexican national team following a record 180 caps.

Guardado, also known as El Principito (the Little Prince), announced his return via Instagram with a simple message: “I’m back!”

Alongside the signing of Colombian maestro James Rodríguez, the veteran’s side now prepare for a run of games that include Flamengo, Chelsea and Espérance de Tunis in the group stage.
