Former Penn State QB Beau Pribula finds transfer portal destination in SEC school, per source

Penn State quarterback Beau Pribula warms up for the game against Maryland on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024.

Penn State’s former backup quarterback has found his next destination.

Beau Pribula committed to Missouri, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz first reported the news.

He would have a clear path to the starting job after this season’s starter for the Tigers, Brady Cook, exhausted his eligibility.

In his three years as a Nittany Lion, the quarterback tallied 424 passing yards on 37-of-56 passing with nine touchdowns and one interception while adding 571 yards on the ground and 10 rushing touchdowns on 94 carries.

His departure came the week leading up to the Nittany Lions’ matchup in the College Football Playoff with the SMU Mustangs, which they went on to win 38-10. Pribula’s departure from the program left PSU without its usual backup and led to freshman quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer getting his first collegiate action against the Mustangs.

Penn State head coach James Franklin said they tried to resolve the situation to allow Pribula to stay with the team, but couldn’t make it work.

“I think it’s one of these things, like a lot of things, in theory, that sounds good,” Franklin said about Pribula staying with the team. “But when you actually talk through how it’s actually going to work, it’s hard to do that. It’s hard to say you’re preparing to be the starter — when I say the starter, you guys understand our approach at every position, starters and backups approaching it that way — and I feel like at the end of the day I don’t feel like Beau felt like he could do those things to the level he needed to. He was out at practice yesterday and I could tell he was distracted by all of this.”

Pribula has two years of eligibility remaining.
