Former Panthers captain Olli Jokinen goes viral for profanity-laced locker room speech
Former Florida Panthers captain Olli Jokinen is working hard in his second career.
After 17 seasons and 1,231 games in the NHL, Jokinen transitioned his focus from playing to coaching.
He founded and led the South Florida Hockey Academy for several seasons before taking his first professional head coaching job with Jukurit in Liiga, known in English-speaking circles as the Finnish Elite League.
After three seasons with in Mikkeli with Jukurit, Jokinen took a job coaching Timra IK in the Swedish Hockey League, the top pro league in Sweden.
This week, footage of Jokinen speaking to Timra in the locker room went viral.
In the clips, Jokinen is sending a profanity-laced message to his players, who apparently did not bring their hard hats to work that night.
It’s very cool to see Jokinen in his new element.
As he continues hone his craft overseas, it’s probably not crazy to think about Jokinen someday making the move back to North America.
He has plenty of connections and relationships in pro hockey over here, and coming back would be a logical next step, if he wanted to continue climbing the coaching ladder.
You can check out the full clip of Jokinen’s lock room swear-fest below (it starts around the 13:25 mark) but be warned, it's not for younger ears.
