Former Oilers Power Forward Calls It Quits
Another one of Connor McDavid's linemates is hanging up his skates.
Former Oiler Alex Chiasson announced his retirement from the NHL at the age of 34, according to the NHL Players' Association.
A #StanleyCup Champion with 651 NHL games played for 7 different NHL teams, congratulations to Alex Chiasson, who recently announced his retirement from the NHL 👏

Chiasson played in 651 games over eleven seasons in the NHL, including 183 games over three seasons in Edmonton, the longest stretch he spent with any of his seven teams. He scored 120 goals and 233 points in the NHL, with a stat line of 42-36-78 as an Oiler.
Drafted in the second round in 2009 by the Dallas Stars, Chiasson made his NHL debut in 2013 before being traded to Ottawa as part of the Jason Spezza deal on July 1st, 2014. Chiasson then spent two years in Ottawa and one each in Calgary and Washington before signing a PTO with the Oilers in the fall of 2018.
The highlight of Chiasson's career came just before coming to Edmonton when he won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Washington Capitals in 2018.
Chiasson was best known in Edmonton as Connor McDavid's linemate, scoring 22 goals by his side in 2018-19 and often returning there during his tenure in Edmonton despite his declining production.
Chiasson was well-liked by Oilers fans at first, as a surprising breakout who all of a sudden started scoring goals in bunches next to McDavid. But as is so often the case in Edmonton, fans started to turn on him as the scoring dried up and he could no longer keep up with McDavid.
Chiasson left the Oilers after the 2020-21 season, spending one season with Vancouver and one with Detroit before failing to catch on with PTOs in Boston in 2023 and Detroit in 2024.
