Former Oilers Goalie Hits New Career Milestone

EDMONTON -- A new year, a new day.

Indeed, that is the mentality of former Edmonton Oilers goaltender Cam Talbot. On July 1st, Talbot started the new chapter of his career by signing a two-year $2.5-million per season contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

So far, so good.

In nine games played, he has a 5-2-1 record, a 2.34 goals against average (GAA), a .927 save percentage (SV%), and one shutout. He's well on his way to having a season that will come close to the heights of his time with the Oilers organization.

Last night, he backstopped the Red Wings to a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory. He made 31 saves while setting a new personal record.

It was his 250th career win.

Talbot is now 65th overall in career wins for a goaltender. Connor Hellebuyck, Semyon Varlamov, Frederik Andersen, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Jonathan Quick, Sergei Bobrovsky, and Marc-Andre Fleury are the only active goalies with more career victories.

The 37-year-old has to thank the Oilers for the huge opportunity they gave him when Peter Chiarelli acquired him. Of his 250 victories, 104 came when he played for Edmonton.

He currently sits fourth in career Oilers wins (104), third in shutouts (12), and fourth in games played (227). Stuart Skinner, the Oilers' current starter, has 77 career wins, five shutouts, and 134 games played.

It's great to see a player rebound after a streak of average to poor seasons.
