"I want to begin by thanking the organizations I was lucky enough to play for, especially the incredible equipment managers, medical teams, coaches, trainers, and all of the staff that made going to the rink every day so special," Ennis wrote in his announcement post.

Ennis played 39 games with the Oilers between 2019-20 and 2020-21, scoring 13 points and adding a playoff goal in 2020. He played 700 NHL games over 14 seasons, scoring 144 goals and 346 points.

Standing at 5'9", the Edmonton-born Ennis was a fan favourite early in his career in Buffalo thanks to his skill and short stature. After leaving Buffalo, he made stops in Minnesota, Toronto, Ottawa, and Edmonton before heading to Europe in 2022-23. The Mannheim Eagles of the DEL announced his retirement after seven games in January.

"As I officially walk away from hockey, I can't help but feel indebted to the game that has given me so much -- the greatest game on Earth," Ennis closed out his announcement.

All the best to Ennis -- one of my favourite players -- in retirement.
