Former NHLer Kristian Huselius 'really lucky' after fireplace explosion
Kristian Huselius considers himself fortunate after a horrible fireplace accident at his apartment in Stockholm, Sweden.
The 10-year NHL veteran suffered “extensive burns” to his face, shoulder and other areas when adding fuel to the flame burning inside his living room caused an explosion.
Fortunately, he was able to call an ambulance before passing out on their arrival, as described to Sportsnet’s Eric Francis. He was treated for his burns in intensive care, and has since returned home.
He will be in and out of hospital for the foreseeable future to help treat his wounds and monitor the healing progress.
This shocking picture of his face began circulating online earlier this week.

Huselius told Francis that he feels lucky — not just to be alive, but for having avoided his entire apartment being engulfed by flames.
“I’m fortunate,” he said. “I will have scars, but it could have been worse.”
Huselius, now 40, has been out of the NHL since 2013. He scored 190 goals and amassed 451 points in 662 career games, and enjoyed his best seasons with Calgary.
