Former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood is reportedly being eyed by two European giants, FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

The 22 year old has made an outstanding start to life in France for his new side Olympique de Marseille, who currently sit third in Ligue 1.

Greenwood’s move was met with scepticism by some, including the mayor of the city.

Nonetheless, he has made the perfect start at his new club and he has bagged five goals and one assist in six matches.

Subsequently, there have already been reports that European big-hitters Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all dream of signing the former United academy product.

The Sun report that the real battle is between only two of these clubs however. They claim, “Barcelona are set to make a summer bid for Mason Greenwood – but face a major fight for the forward.”

“Scouts from the Nou Camp have watched four of Greenwood’s games so far and SunSport understands they are prepared to bid as much as £60m for the former Manchester United star, who they were tracking last season.”

Greenwood has already proven he can perform in Spain’s elite league as he regularly impressed with Getafe while on loan there last season.

This all means that he is one of the club’s “main priorities” for next summer but they will not have a clear path to his signature.

“Greenwood’s impressive start to the season has also caught the eye of Paris Saint-Germain, who are desperate to add to their firepower. They’ve also sent scouts to watch the former England international and would have no trouble matching Barcelona if the clubs became embroiled in a bidding war.”

Interestingly, sources for the paper claim that Greenwood would love to stay in France long-term due to how well he has settled, in what could be a major positive for PSG’s chances of landing the star.

United reportedly added a 50% sell-on clause in Greenwood’s sale to Marseille in the summer, so a blockbuster move to either of these sides would surely be a welcome addition to the Old Trafford side’s coffers.
