Newcastle United have completed the hugely impressive signing of full-back Demi Stokes on a free transfer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Magpies this afternoon.

Stokes joins Newcastle United upon the expiry of her contract at former club Manchester City. The 32-year-old spent nine successful years at The Joie Stadium in which she won one Barclays Women’s Super League title, three Adobe Women’s FA Cups and three FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cups. Stokes is one of just three players to have made over 200 professional appearances for Manchester City.

On the international stage, Stokes has been capped by England on 69 occasions in which she has scored one goal. She was also a member of the Team GB squad for the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.

The player will now help grow a fascinating project at Newcastle United. She is The Magpies’ most high-profile signing to date.

After joining Newcastle United, Stokes said “I am thrilled to be joining Newcastle United and returning home to the North East.

“I still have so much to give on the pitch and I’m excited to bring my experience to a club with such big ambitions. From the moment I spoke to the club, I felt valued and knew this was the right place for me to contribute to an exciting, new project.

“I can’t wait to get going and meet the team.”

Stokes becomes Newcastle United’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
