Has former Man United & Spain star David de Gea hinted at a return to the game?

The latest social media activity on the part of ex-Spanish international David de Gea has set tongues wagging this weekend.

This comes amid suggestions that the goalkeeper may be primed for an imminent return to the game.

Shot-stopper De Gea, for his part, has of course spent the last year away from football.

As much comes after Premier League giants Manchester United opted against renewing their long-time no.1’s contract.

De Gea was expected to find for himself a new club without issue, but, in the end, the right offer was simply not forthcoming for the one-time Atlético Madrid man.

Still just 33 years of age, though, could De Gea yet find his way back between the posts for the season ahead.

Speculation surrounding precisely that has been rampant in the media over the course of the last 24 hours.

This comes after the Spaniard himself posted an altogether cryptic message across his social media platforms on Saturday.

The post in question contained no words, but instead a solitary emoji – an hour glass.

Signifying that he has news ready to be shared, could De Gea spring a surprise by penning a contract with a new club over the weeks ahead?
