Former Kraken Defenseman Requested To Be Traded According To NHL Insider

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, former Seattle Kraken defenseman Will Borgen requested a trade.

Friedman had a lot to say about the quickly sinking Kraken team including Borgen requesting a trade before he was dealt to the New York Rangers in exchange for Kaapo Kakko.

Borgen was in his fourth season with the Kraken after he was selected from the Buffalo Sabres in the expansion draft. The 28-year-old was playing a career-low in ice time and was struggling to make an impact as he did the season prior.

Since he was dealt to the Rangers, Borgen has been averaging 18:37 of ice time, recording a goal and an assist. Playing on the second pairing with K'Andre Miller, Borgen's role with the Rangers is greater than what it was with the Kraken and despite their struggles, are closer to a playoff spot.

Friedman believes that the Kraken's continuous losing reached a point where Borgen requested a trade and believes that it could come to affect others, mentioning Oliver Bjorkstrand and Andre Burakovsky as possible players that could be moved at this season's trade deadline.

Bjorkstrand dealt with a low point this season but outside of that rough patch, has been a consistent scorer and could fetch a strong return due to the term of his contract.

Burakovsky's third season with the Kraken is going almost as poorly as his second but could be a player teams take a chance on. A change of scenery could do him wonders and his experience from winning two Stanley Cups could be exactly what a contending team is looking for. m
