Former K-State guard Tylor Perry signs contract with NBA team after going undrafted

Kansas State basketball fans will have two very good reasons to watch the Toronto Raptors next month when the NBA Summer League begins.

The first is Tylor Perry.

The second is Markquis Nowell.

Both of them are talented guards who made plenty of big shots as college stars for the Wildcats. Even though they never played together at K-State there is a strong possibility that they will join forces as teammates with the Raptors.

Perry signed an Exhibit 10 deal with Toronto on Friday after he did not get selected in the 2024 NBA Draft. The deal is a one-year, minimum salary NBA contract that will allow Perry to play for the Raptors over the summer and prove whether or not he is worthy of a bigger contract when the NBA season arrives next fall.

Fans can expect Perry to play for Toronto during the summer league and then possibly for its G League affiliate. If things go well for him, he could then be promoted up to the NBA.

Perry spent one season at K-State under head coach Jerome Tang. He averaged 15.3 points and 4.4 assists per game for the Wildcats while also shooting 33.5% from 3-point range. He was far and away the team’s most reliable shooter last season, as he poured in 93 shots from beyond the arc on a team that won 19 games and reached the NIT.

Nowell helped recruit Perry when he was considering a transfer from North Texas to K-State. Now there is a good chance that they will team up on the Raptors after Nowell signed a two-way contract with Toronto and then averaged 14.4 points, 8.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds for its G League team as a rookie.

Perry has been working toward this opportunity for many years. He began his college journey at Coffeyville Community College and then transferred to North Texas, where he helped the Mean Green win an NIT championship. Then he finished out his college days at K-State. Now, he is a professional basketball player.
