Former Juventus boss emerges as potential candidate for Manchester United job
Manchester United continue to be linked with managerial candidates while the team struggles on the pitch.
Reports suggest it will be a pivotal week for Erik ten Hag as the Dutchman has two games to save his job at Old Trafford. Both fixtures in question are away from home against FC Porto and Aston Villa.
The team may be focusing on the upcoming fixtures, but fresh claims from Football Insider suggest United are interested in speaking with ex-Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri if Ten Hag is sacked.
Sources told the publication that United are likely to swoop for an out-of-work manager if club chiefs feel a change is needed at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag’s future hangs in the balance after a series of disappointing performances, including 3-0 home defeats to Tottenham and Liverpool.
Allegri, 57, won the Scudetto six times before ending his second spell at Juventus in May.
Sir Alex Ferguson endorsement
Manchester United’s legendary former manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has reportedly endorsed Allegri as a potential replacement for Ten Hag.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Ferguson views Allegri as his preferred candidate to take charge at United.
It doesn’t get much bigger than an endorsement from Ferguson. Allegri wasn’t one of the names that was put forward during the summer, so it will be interesting to see if this story grows over the coming weeks.
A lot will depend on whether United can show signs of bouncing back against Porto and Villa.
