Former Golden Knights' Defenseman Signs Contract Extension With Flames

Former Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Brayden Pachal signed a two-year, $1,187,500 AAV contract extension with the Calgary Flames.

The 25-year-old signed an entry-level contract with the Golden Knights after he completed his WHL career with the Prince Albert Raiders. Throughout his tenure with the Golden Knights, Pachal played 29 games, scoring a goal and three points.

Despite playing for the Golden Knights as a replacement for injuries they suffered on the back end, Pachal was vital to the Henderson Silver Knights, serving as their captain for two seasons before the Flames claimed him off of waivers during the 2023-24 season.

After the Flames claimed the Estevan, SK native, he played 33 games to finish off their season recording a goal and five points. Now during the 2024-25 campaign, Pachal has played in all 31 of the Flames' games.

Pachal is a stabilizer for the Flames, providing physicality, blocking shots and killing penalties. He doesn't provide much offence from the back end but he defends the blue line well, works hard to kill cycle plays and is a capable puck mover.

There was never space for Pachal to advance and earn an everyday role with the Golden Knights but it's a testament to the hard work of an undrafted waiver claim.
