Former Golden Knight Struggling In New Enviroment

Former Vegas Golden Knight Chandler Stephenson left for the Seattle Kraken in free agency, but times have been tough with his new team.

Through 13 games, the 30-year-old has recorded just one goal and eight points. He's provided the team with a trustworthy all-around game, winning 54% of his faceoffs, registering power play points and killing penalties but his play at 5-on-5 has suffered.

Four of his eight points have come on the man advantage, and his one goal came on the power play. At 5-on-5, Stephenson has recorded just four shots on goal, three high-danger chances, and two primary assists. His struggles at 5-on-5 go deeper than just his production.

According to Natural Stat Trick, when Stephenson is on the ice, the Kraken are being outshot 96-63, outscored 10-5, have given up 20 more high-danger chances (38-18), and hold just 36.44% of the expected goals.

Stephenson's best years with the Golden Knights proved to be the opposite of what he's shown with the Kraken but his final season with the Golden Knights seems to have carried over into his new endeavour. His play at 5v5 isn't what it used to be but he's provided value on the penalty kill. In 38:51, Stephenson has been on the ice for just three goals while killing penalties.

The Saskatoon, Sask native can be a streaky scorer. At any moment, Stephenson's confidence can skyrocket and he can go on a 10-game stretch where he finds the back of the net frequently and creates chances out of thin air. At the moment, he hasn't done enough to show signs of breaking out but a veteran like Stephenson just needs one brief moment to correct things.
