Former Flames Player Top Scorer In KHL

The Calgary Flames are one point out of a wildcard spot in the NHL Western Conference, led by Jonathan Huberdeau, who has 13 goals and 25 points in 34 games.

Meanwhile, Salavat Yulaev Ufa is tied for first in the KHL Eastern Conference with 52 points in Russia. Former Flames player Joshua Leivo isn't only leading his team in scoring with 23 goals and 38 points in 33 games but is also the top scorer in the KHL.

This is Leivo's second season in Russia, most recently playing in North America with the St. Louis Blues (51 games) and Springfield Thunderbirds (two games) in 2022-23.

Last year, the 31-year-old winger had 15 goals and 38 points in 30 games. In fewer games in 2024-25, Leivo has already surpassed his best KHL totals in goals and points. He still has time to match or exceed his assist totals.

Initially a Toronto Maple Leafs third-round (86th overall) draft pick in 2011, Leivo spent parts of seven seasons with the organization before a trade to the Vancouver Canucks in 2018-19. He eventually landed in Calgary as a free agent in 2020.

During his brief stint with the Flames, he scored six goals and nine points in 38 games before departing as a free agent to sign with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Leivo spent parts of ten seasons in the NHL, scoring 42 goals and 93 points in 265 games while compiling 76 goals and 174 points in 227 AHL games.

The KHL season runs until the end of March, giving Leivo plenty of time to set personal highs and hold off the competition for the league's scoring title.
