The former Calgary Flames goalie stayed down and needed assistance getting off the ice, eventually skating on his own. New Jersey head coach Sheldon Keefe said Markström "will miss some time," but he was in good spirits about this possible lower-body injury.
In his first season with the Devils, Markström has played the second most games (36) in the NHL this season, with a 21-9-5 record. His 2.20 GAA and .912 SV% have helped his new team remain a top contender in the Metropolitan Division.
Not only will Markström's injury affect the Devils' future, but Sweden's goalie platoon for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-off has been hammered since their roster announcement in December.

Of the three netminders named to the team, Filip Gustavsson is the only one still playing. Linus Ullmark hasn't skated since Dec. 22, missing time with a back injury, and now Markström is set to miss time with his injury.
Meanwhile, Jake Allen should see an increase in the number of starts for New Jersey, with Markström on the shelf for an undetermined time. In relief on Wednesday, he made 16 saves and is 5-8-1 in 15 games this season.
During his 15 seasons in the NHL, Markström has compiled a 236-205-62 record. His statistics include 23 shutouts, 2.69 GAA, and .909 SV% with the Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks, Flames, and Devils.
