Former Flames Forward Suffers Setback, Out Six To Eight Weeks

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Sean Monahan suffered a wrist injury in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Jan. 7. Initially, the former Calgary Flames forward would have missed a few weeks and return.

However, news broke on the weekend that Monahan has suffered a setback in his rehab and is now officially ruled out for six to eight weeks, with a projected return date in late March.

The Blue Jackets (26-19-3) are in the thick of the Eastern Conference wildcard race and are tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for the second spot, but are on the outside looking in based on points percentage.

At the time of his injury, Monahan had 14 goals and 41 points in 41 games, one of his best starts since 2018-19 when he had 82 points in 78 games with the Flames.

The 30-year-old remains Columbus' third-leading scorer despite not playing for over 20 days.

In 805 games with the Flames, Montreal Canadiens, Winnipeg Jets, and Blue Jackets, Monahan has 258 goals and 321 assists for 579 points.
